{July 4, 2009}   My Chinese Name
I finally found a great site to help me learn more about my given Chinese name, http://www.nciku.com. It uses the Collins English-Chinese dictionary and I’m so thankful I found it. An_Rui_Xue
Here’s my Chinese name and its meaning. :D

安瑞雪

安 [ān] – peaceful; at ease; undisturbed; tranquil; calm
瑞 [ruì] – noun good luck
雪 [xuě] – noun snow
If you combine 瑞 and 雪, it means ‘timely fall of snow’.

{June 28, 2009}   Friggin’ Fridge Problems

As of this moment, I am defrosting the fridge again because the freezer part is the only place getting cold. The chiller area isn’t. The funny thing is, I think (remember I’m not sure), the temperature controls for both the freezer and the chiller are in the freezer.

{June 27, 2009}   New ARC!

I got my ARC last month but because I moved in to a permanent place to stay, I had to update my ARC information. Change of address meant changing the card itself. IMAGE_006

I didn’t want to delay this because rules say that I get fined if I don’t update within fifteen days. I don’t know why I’m always afraid when I hear those kinds of threats. One officemate said that this isn’t always true. You can update it anytime and just say you forgot, they’ll understand. I didn’t take any chances and asked our very helpful HR to help me with this. Now, I have my ARC card with my new address. Yey!

Hopefully my next visit will be the time I renew my ARC, which is next year.

After the Pals-N-Pals dinner, it was very lucky for me to find out that I wasn’t going home alone. The interns of our department are also from Taoyuan and they can teach me the way home. First, we took the Xiaobitan MRT. I found out that this line only has two points of destination, Xiaobitan and Qizhang. I have to remember how to buy the tickets: press where you’re going, then insert cash.In the Qizhang station, we didn’t have to go to another platform and just stayed there to wait for our train going to the Taipei Main Station. Taipei Main Station was too confusing because everything else is there — MRT, Train and HSR. We took the Yellow path and we bought tickets again for the Train. Vending machine didn’t have touch screen, you just have to press all options you want (single fare, destination, etc.). Our travel time was approximately forty minutes.
